The floating mug with built-in coaster caught our attention for it’s obviously interesting design thanks to Tigere Chiriga – businessman turned product designer. Inspired by a banana holder, the Floating Mug is a white porcelain mug that separates the hot liquid vessel portion from the surface it’s resting on by integrating a coaster into the handle. This mug will not damage sensitive surfaces because the heat is not transferred to the surface, and it looks super cool while protecting your favourite wood coffee table or antique office desk. And despite it’s detached nature, the mug’s arm is incredibly durable, able to withstand the weight of a gallon of liquid in a plastic jug without breaking off. But wait, it gets better…The best part is that the Floating Mug will receive public funding through KickStarter on July 31 2012, having surpassed their goal of $15,000 in pre-sales and public support.
